Seeking Advisement

Interested in working with the MCAC to assist you with your application process to medical, dental, optometry or podiatry school? Make sure you visit the Overview and Timelines page first, so that you know when to start the process!

A good deal of information is included on this website, so please make sure to read it, so that you can familiarize yourself with the overall process.  There are also a lot of resources referenced and linked to this site.

Dr. Nayak is available for advising by appointment. His Fall Semester 2023 Appointments will be held on Fridays 11 am – 1 pm. You can schedule an appointment by visiting his calendar link, The “initial applicant appointments” to open a file with the MCAC are most often set up during the spring semester. He can also be reached via email at nayak@tcnj.edu.

Ms. Kull can be found in the Biology Main Office, Room 202, on Wednesdays through Fridays; and is available via email all week long to answer a quick question. Email her at mcac@tcnj.edu.

Members of the MCAC, and your own advisor, will have varying degrees of familiarity with recent updates to the application process. If they are not able to guide you, please contact Dr. Nayak or Ms. Kull.

The MCAC also sends occasional informational notices of opportunities to students in the Health Professions Student Group in PAWS. Sign up if you are seeking a career in a health profession. We also send out information and updates via the @TCNJBiology Instagram account.

Advising Courses via Canvas:

We have also begun to create and use (non-credit, non-graded) “Advising Courses” on Canvas. Enrollment is by request for TCNJ students only.

  • The MCAC 201 course, “Seeking the Support of the MCAC”, walks active med or dental applicants who wish to have the support of the MCAC through the steps of a specific application cycle. It is updated annually to reflect the specifics of the current application cycle. The updated version of the course is available each year at the start of the spring semester.
  • The MCAC 101 course, “What’s Up, Doc?”, provides more general information on how to prepare for a health profession career. HOWEVER, much of the information which will appear in the 101 course is ALREADY on THIS website!  To request an invitation to the MCAC 101 course, please send an email to mcac@tcnj.edu with “MCAC 101” in the subject line, and we will respond with the process to gain access. Please use your tcnj email account when requesting the access. It will also be available through our “MCAC News ‘n Notes” Newsletter sent to members of the Health Professions Student Group in PAWS.

We are here to help you in the process of seeking your career in a health profession!
